وَقَالَتْ أُولَاهُمْ لِأُخْرَاهُمْ فَمَا كَانَ لَكُمْ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ فَضْلٍ فَذُوقُوا الْعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَكْسِبُونَ

Sahih International

(7:39) And the first of them will say to the last of them, "Then you had not any favor over us, so taste the punishment for what you used to earn."

Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali and Muhammad Muhsin Khan,

(7:39) The first of them will say to the last of them: "You were not better than us, so taste the torment for what you used to earn."

Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

(7:39) And the first of them saith unto the last of them: Ye were no whit better than us, so taste the doom for what ye used to earn.

Abdullah Yusuf Ali

(7:39) Then the first will say to the last: "See then! No advantage have ye over us; so taste ye of the penalty for all that ye did!"

Mohammad Habib Shakir

(7:39) And the foremost of them will say to the last of them: So you have no preference over us; therefore taste the chastisement for what you earned.

(7:39) And the first of them will say to the last of them, "So, in no way are you of any grace (i.e. are in no way superior; are no better) over us; then taste the torment for what you were earning."

(7:39) Then the preceding ones among them say to the succeeding ones: "You are in no wise superior to us, so taste the punishment for all (the sins) that you were busy earning (through your belief and deeds)!"

(7:39) And the first of them, (- their leaders) will say to the last of them (- the followers), `(If we are to blame), you (too) are no better than we. Suffer therefore, the punishment of your (evil) deeds.´

(7:39) And their first said to their last: "So (there) was/is not was for you on us from grace/favour/blessing, so taste/experience the torture because (of) what you were gaining/acquiring ."

(7:39) Then the former will say to the latter: "You have no privilege over us. So taste the punishment for what you had done."
