وَاقْصِدْ فِي مَشْيِكَ وَاغْضُضْ مِنْ صَوْتِكَ ۚ إِنَّ أَنْكَرَ الْأَصْوَاتِ لَصَوْتُ الْحَمِيرِ

Quran surah Luqman 19 in english translation

Sahih International

(31:19) And be moderate in your pace and lower your voice; indeed, the most disagreeable of sounds is the voice of donkeys."

Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali and Muhammad Muhsin Khan,

(31:19) And be moderate (or show no insolence) in your walking, and lower your voice. Verily, the harshest of all voices is the voice (braying) of the ass.

(31:19) Be modest in thy bearing and subdue thy voice. Lo! the harshest of all voices is the voice of the ass.

Abdullah Yusuf Ali

(31:19) And be moderate in thy pace, and lower thy voice; for the harshest of sounds without doubt is the braying of the ass.
