ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ شَاقُّوا اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ ۚ وَمَنْ يُشَاقِقِ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ

Quran surah Al Anfal 13 in english translation

Sahih International

(8:13) That is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger. And whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger - indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.

Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali and Muhammad Muhsin Khan,

(8:13) This is because they defied and disobeyed Allah and His Messenger. And whoever defies and disobeys Allah and His Messenger, then verily, Allah is Severe in punishment.

Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

(8:13) That is because they opposed Allah and His messenger. Whoso opposeth Allah and His messenger, (for him) lo! Allah is severe in punishment.

Abdullah Yusuf Ali

(8:13) This because they contended against Allah and His Messenger: If any contend against Allah and His Messenger, Allah is strict in punishment.

Mohammad Habib Shakir

(8:13) This is because they acted adversely to Allah and His Apostle; and whoever acts adversely to Allah and His Apostle-- then surely Allah is severe in requiting (evil).

(8:13) That (is) for that they opposed Allah and His Messenger; and whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger; then surely Allah is strict in punishment.

(8:13) "Do so because they defied God and His Messenger." Whoever defies God and His Messenger: (let everyone know that) God is severe in retribution.

(8:13) This (punishment) is (given them) because they have cut themselves off from Allâh and His Messenger, and whosoever opposes Allâh and His Messenger, as its result Allâh (too) is Severe in punishment (to such).

Literal

(8:13) That (is) because they (E) defied/disobeyed God and His messenger, and who defies/disobeys God and His messenger, so then God (is) strong (severe in) the punishment.

(8:13) For they had opposed God and His Apostle; but whosoever opposes God and his Apostle (should know) that God is severe in retribution.

(8:13) That, because they had made a breach with God and with His Messenger; and whosoever makes a breach with God and with His Messenger, surely God is terrible in retribution.
