Quran surah Al Maidah 43 in english translation

Sahih International

(5:43) But how is it that they come to you for judgement while they have the Torah, in which is the judgement of Allah? Then they turn away, [even] after that; but those are not [in fact] believers.

Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali and Muhammad Muhsin Khan,

(5:43) But how do they come to you for decision while they have the Taurat (Torah), in which is the (plain) Decision of Allah; yet even after that, they turn away. For they are not (really) believers.

Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

(5:43) How come they unto thee for judgment when they have the Torah, wherein Allah hath delivered judgment (for them)? Yet even after that they turn away. Such (folk) are not believers.

Abdullah Yusuf Ali

(5:43) But why do they come to thee for decision, when they have (their own) law before them?- therein is the (plain) command of Allah; yet even after that, they would turn away. For they are not (really) People of Faith.

Mohammad Habib Shakir

(5:43) And how do they make you a judge and they have the Taurat wherein is Allah's judgment? Yet they turn back after that, and these are not the believers.

Dr. Ghali

(5:43) And how do they make you their judge and the Tawrah (The Book revealed to Musa "Moses", of which the extant Torah is a corruption) is in their presence, wherein is the Judgment of Allah? Thereafter they turn away even after that. And in no way are those the (real) believers.

Ali Unal

(5:43) But how is it that they ask you for judgment when they have the Torah, in which there is God’s judgment (concerning murder), and still thereafter turn away (from that and from your judgment)? The fact is: those are not believers.

Amatul Rahman Omar

(5:43) And how should they appoint you their judge whilst they have with them the Torah which contains the law (and judgment) of Allâh. Yet they turn their backs even after that (you judge between them). And such people are not true believers (neither in the Qur´ân nor in the Torah).

Literal

(5:43) And how (do) they ask you to judge/rule, and at them (is) the Torah/Old Testament, in it (is) God`s judgment/rule, then they turn away from after that, and those are not with the believing.

Ahmed Ali

(5:43) But why should they make you a judge when the Torah is with them which contains the Law of God? Even then they turn away. They are those who will never believe.

A. J. Arberry

(5:43) Yet how will they make thee their judge seeing they have the Torah, wherein is God's judgment, then thereafter turn their backs? They are not believers.

Abdul Majid Daryabadi

(5:43) And how shall they ask thee for judgement, whereas with them is the Taurat wherein is Allah's judgement? And they turn away thereafter? And those are no believers.

Maulana Mohammad Ali

(5:43) Listeners for the sake of a lie, devourers of forbidden things, so if they come to thee, judge between them or turn away from them. And if thou turn away from them, they cannot harm thee at all. And if thou judge, judge between them with equity. Surely Allah loves the equitable.

Muhammad Sarwar

(5:43) How can they come to you for judgment when they already have the Torah which contains the decree of God! It does not take them long to disregard your judgment; they are not true believers.

Hamid Abdul Aziz

(5:43) Verily, it was We who have revealed the Torah in which there is guidance and light; the prophets who had surrendered did judge the Jews thereby, as did the Rabbis (masters) and doctors of Law. To them was entrusted the Book of Allah to judge by, and they were witnesses to it. Fear not men, but fear Me, and sell not My Signs (or revelations) for a miserable price. Whoever will not judge by what Allah has revealed, these are the disbelievers.

Faridul Haque

(5:43) And why should they wish to be judged by you, when they have the Taurat with them, in which exist the commands of Allah and yet they turn away from it? And they will not accept faith.

Talal Itani

(5:43) But why do they come to you for judgment, when they have the Torah, in which is God’s Law? Yet they turn away after that. These are not believers.

Ahmed Raza Khan

(5:43) And why should they wish to be judged by you, when they have the Taurat with them, in which exist the commands of Allah and yet they turn away from it? And they will not accept faith.

Wahiduddin Khan

(5:43) But why do they come to you for judgement when they have the Torah, which enshrines God's own judgement? Yet, in spite of that, they turn their backs; and certainly they will not believe.

Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri

(5:43) But how do they come to you for a decision while they have the Tawrah, in which is the decision of Allah; yet even after that they turn away. For they are not believers.

Ali Quli Qarai

(5:43) And how should they make you a judge, while with them is the Torah, in which is Allah’s judgement? Yet in spite of that, they turn their backs [on Him] and they are not believers.

Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish

(5:43) But how will they come to you for judgment when they already have the Torah in which is the judgement of Allah? Then they turn away after that; those are not believers.
