ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ آمَنُوا ثُمَّ كَفَرُوا فَطُبِعَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ

Sahih International

(63:3) That is because they believed, and then they disbelieved; so their hearts were sealed over, and they do not understand.

Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali and Muhammad Muhsin Khan,

(63:3) That is because they believed, then disbelieved, therefore their hearts are sealed, so they understand not.

Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

(63:3) That is because they believed, then disbelieved, therefore their hearts are sealed so that they understand not.

Abdullah Yusuf Ali

(63:3) That is because they believed, then they rejected Faith: So a seal was set on their hearts: therefore they understand not.

(63:3) That is because they believe, then disbelieve, so a seal is set upon their hearts so that they do not understand.

(63:3) That is because they declared faith but thereafter (inwardly) disbelieved, so a seal has been set on their hearts so that they do not grasp the truth (and cannot recover the ability to reach to it).

(63:3) That (they follow this practice) is because (outwardly) they believed but (inwardly) they disbelieved, so that their hearts are sealed and (now) they do not even understand.
