وَقَالُوا لَوْلَا نُزِّلَ هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنُ عَلَىٰ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْقَرْيَتَيْنِ عَظِيمٍ

Sahih International

(43:31) And they said, "Why was this Qur'an not sent down upon a great man from [one of] the two cities?"

Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali and Muhammad Muhsin Khan,

(43:31) And they say: "Why is not this Quran sent down to some great man of the two towns (Makkah and Ta'if)?"

Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

(43:31) And they say: If only this Qur'an had been revealed to some great man of the two towns?

Abdullah Yusuf Ali

(43:31) Also, they say: "Why is not this Qur'an sent down to some leading man in either of the two (chief) cities?"

(43:31) And they say: Why was not this Quran revealed to a man of importance in the two towns?

(43:31) And they have said, "Had this Qur'an been successively sent down upon a man of eminence in the two towns?" (Makkah and At-TaÉif)

(43:31) They also say: "If only this Qur’an had been sent down on a man of leading position of the two (chief) cities!"
